HALO

Halo is a handheld device, connecting homeless people to food vendors and restaurants, to collect spare food that otherwise would be wasted

12 weeks, individual project

The form of the product had to be appropriate for the outdoor, rough conditions in which it would be used.  Through ideation a rugged aesthetic emerged as the most suitable for this robust sustainable design.

IDEATION

sketches.jpg

A key factor in this handheld device was that it was durable, could be attached to clothing and would not be liable to theft.  During the ideation process fixing points emerged to enable easy attachment, a robust profile evolved for durability and unique identification for security. The central finger scanner acts as the power button.  Once the power button is synced to the owner’s finger
the product will only function for that user, incorporating a degree of security that makes the device worthless to trade.

STORYBOARD

The homeless find it hard to eat regularly,

or to find healthy food

Many restaurants and vendors waste vast

amounts of unwanted food

The Halo app is used by staff to send food

availability notifications to the handset

The Halo handset will receive the

location, amount and availability of the food

Other information on soup kitchens, charities,

shelters and GPS, can also be found

on the device

The secondary body detaches from the

main handset as a tracker and

motion sensor

The clip attaches to the owner's possessions, notifying

the main handset, if they are

stolen or moved

The unwanted food can be collected

and put to good use, feeding

the homeless

FINAL APPEARANCE MODEL
